An Indiana auto dealership has a new owner after its longtime principal retired

Grieger’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, which opened for business in the northwest part of the state in the greater Chicago area in 1959, was picked up by a growing auto group.

Michigan-based Garber Automotive Group added the Valparaiso store to its roster of brands across 25 dealerships in six states spanning from its home base down to Florida and representing 17 brands. It renamed its new location to reflect the Garber brand.

Grieger’s had been helmed by David Rodgers, who joined the dealership almost 40 years ago, then bought it in the mid-2000s and served as president.

The store is one of the top-performing CDJR dealerships in the country, according to Performance Brokerage Services, which brokered its sale for Rodgers.

Garber Automotive, in business since 1907, when founder Guy Garber worked as a traveling Buick salesman, has been led by third-generation owner Dick Garber since 1980. The Valparaiso store is the group’s 26th location.
